EGX 2014: LA Cops

One interesting title we found at EGX 2014 was this 1970s-style isometric shooter – which apparently I was quite good at – from the creators of Typing of the Dead: Overkill. Read on for our video interview.

Title - EGX 2014 LA Cops

LA Cops takes the fast-paced action of other recent isometric shooters and adds interesting strategic elements such as door breaching, flanking and a set of six characters each with different attributes and weapons. You select two characters per mission and can either independently control each one in turn or move them in unison allowing you to tackle the objectives in any way you see fit. Sometimes busting the door down and filling the room with lead will be the best course of action and other times a well thought-out strategic approach will be more appropriate. Fully destructible walls, windows and furniture add even more depth to the game along with a head-banging soundtrack for even more awesomeness.

The first thing I noticed was the impressive 70s art style to the 3D cutscenes and in-game which is simple enough to not distract from the gameplay but still looks stunning. I found the gameplay to be fast and addictive – it wasn’t long before I was told to let someone else play because I was getting too engrossed. Check out our video interview with artist and designer Ollie Clarke of Modern Dream and be sure to visit their Steam store page for more information on the game – and grab yourself a copy of the Early Access version.
