Sunshine Award brightens up our day

Update at 08:29, 16/12/2013:

We apologise for multiple updates in one morning but we’ve just found out that we’ve been nominated for our ninth and tenth Sunshine Awards by the amazing Chris from Beer and Joysticks, and GeekOut South-West. It’s very special to be nominated by people who have so much enthusiasm – we’re extremely honoured!

And hot on the heels of the above, an eleventh and twelfth nomination from Play Legit and Murr from geeksleeprinserepeat! Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better – this is turning out to be a great Monday!

A massive thank you to arcadepop who nominated us for an eighth Sunshine Award over the weekend! Anyone who has been a gamer for over twenty years (and has beaten The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time five times) has definitely got some stories to tell, so make sure you head over to the site very soon to check it out.

Update at 15:55, 13/12/2013:

Friday 13th may be unlucky for some but not for us: we’ve just received our seventh nomination for the Sunshine Award from the talented Emil from Why Would You Buy?. Take a look at the Lost Planet 3 review he contributed to 1001-Up.com recently and make sure you check out his blog – not only does he have some great content, but he’s also just got a new pair of glasses.

Update at 06:02, 11/12/2013:

Two more gorgeous people have nominated us for the Sunshine Award: Freecritique and ROFL Rance! One of them has had Black Sabath’s Master of Reality on repeat for days while the other is currently sampling every flavour of eggnog they can find – check out their blogs to see which is which.

Update at 21:59, 09/12/2013:

We’ve just received our fourth nomination for the Sunshine Award from the lovely Chronic Chronicler! He loves to watch movies and TV, play games, and read books and curiously, his brothers gaffer-taped him to a wall in the cellar when he was younger… head over to his blog and take a look, why don’t you.

Update at 17:58, 05/12/2013:

Our third nomination for the Sunshine Award has just come in, thanks to An Aging Gamer! He has great taste in music – anyone who likes Duran Duran is alright in our book. If you’re looking for a great mix of posts, opinions and passion for video games, make sure you check out his blog.

Update at 06:26, 26/11/2013:

We recently received our second Sunshine Award nomination thanks to The Dad, Gentleman Geek! He says that we humour him but that’s simply not the case – his love of the Carlton dance perhaps but never him. His site is well worth a look and he now has a Facebook page too, so make sure you go say hi.

Since we have been running 1001-Up.com we’ve had the honour of meeting and talking to some pretty amazing bloggers, along with being nominated for some great awards like the WordPress Family Award, the Liebster Award and the Versatile Blogger. Just when things couldn’t get any better, we found out this week that we’ve been nominated for another accolade: the Sunshine Award.

Kevin from The Mental Attic and Lunaliah, who are both very talented writers, chose 1001-Up.com for the the Sunshine Award recently. We’re over the moon to be nominated by bloggers who are a big part of the WordPress community and all-round nice people. A big thank you to them both along with everyone else who has supported and helped us since the birth of 1001-Up.com; every day we’re astounded by how great this community is and we can only hope that we get the chance to meet even more wonderful bloggers in the future, while making friendships with our current blogger friends even stronger.

The Sunshine Award is an accolade that bloggers give to others who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere. Its rules are quite simple – you must:

  • Use the logo in the post.
  • Link to whoever nominated you.
  • Write ten facts about yourself
  • Nominate ten fellow bloggers who have inspired you.
  • Leave a comment on the nominees’ blogs to tell them of the award.

So, just for Kevin and Lunaliah, here are ten facts about 1001-Up.com

    1. Craig likes white chocolate to the point of addiction.
    2. Kim could probably drink an entire bottle of vinegar if you let her.
    3. When Phil was young, he bought a PlayStation controller and Tomb Raider 2 before he actually owned the console. He just sat reading the game manual dreaming of the day when he could play it.
    4. Craig thinks Slender Man is misunderstood and people should give him a chance.
    5. Kim’s dad has just bought Diablo III so they can have a family tournament at Christmas.
    6. Phil’s first scary video game experience was Resident Evil 2, when he and his brother used to play the ten-minute demo to see how far they could get. One day when they got further than they had previously, before a zombie’s arm crashed through a window – it scared then half to death and they had second thoughts about buying the full title.
    7. Craig thinks the villagers from Animal Crossing are evil and that you should stear well clear of that town (they can’t be trusted).
    8. Kim can cook a mean roast-dinner-pie.
    9. Phil’s first video game consoles were Gameboy, SNES, and Mega Drive.
    10. We’ve already ordered our tickets for Rezzed in March – can’t wait!

They look as happy as we are

    1. Does this mean Kim’s dad will join us for our co-op playthrough? hahaha

She’s not the only one capable of drinking vinegar my friends, I often do when I use it for a salad, drinking what’s left in the bowl 🙂

And I agree, people should move away from trying to make Slender scary…how about Slender Daycare for the next game? 🙂

And guys, you deserve the nomination, reading your stuff is one of my daily pleasures 🙂

      P.S: You’re cheating, you should’ve each written 10 facts about yourselves 😛

      1. Finally, someone who likes both vinegar and adventure games as much as I do!

And I’m not sure about ten facts about each of us… there’s only so many times you can write about Craig’s obsession with his cat. 😉

          1. Maybe you should do that interview idea for our anniversary, and you can force them out of us! Ha ha ha

    2. Thanks for the nom! This made my night :]. Number 3 is by far my favorite answer on the list. I’ve done that before but with the 360. I brought Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires before I owned the actual console.

      1. They may call us crazy but it’s all part of the process! Actually a lot of people bought the DualShock 4 controller before the PS4 was released, I’m sure they were more eager to upgrade to the next gen rather than actually needing a second controller.

        1. lol. I don’t really consider the PS4 and Xbox One next gen but i don’t think it’s crazy at all. Once you buy a game for a console you don’t have you know for sure you’ll be getting one soon after.

      1. Thanks V! Tomb Raider 2 was the holy grail to me back then, but it wasn’t long after playing it that I decided it was ‘too scary’ and wouldn’t play more than one level… also don’t mention the Yeti’s.

        1. Aww Phil, and I thought I was bad with scary things! Look at you now though, taking on Slender and whatnot, you now laugh in the face of the Tomb Raider Yetis.

          1. Perhaps, but not the T-Rex underneath the zip-line on the Great Wall level! I would rather go for a walk in the woods at night with the Slender man.

            1. Oh now, I’d take a T-Rex over Slender! Although don’t they both have a visual acuity that’s based on movement? 😀

      1. You’re welcome 🙂 BTW seeing all of your PlayStation games has brought back a lot of fond memories especially the Gran Turismo boxes, those games were amazing back in the day. Keep up the good work.

    3. congrats guys and Slender Day Care, man I can see scary in that. Slender and a bunch of creepy babies, shuddering at the thought

      1. Thank you! There’s actually some weird looking Facebook page for Slender Man day care but there’s not much going for it.

                1. maybe what you guys should do is edit together a video of all of you doing the Carlton dance, hell I might try and get our team involved. Each member does a video of themselves doing the Carlton dance, emails you, you guys can put it together
